Yungoos is the Normal-type Generation VII Pokémon known as the Loitering Pokémon. Introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon, it is Pokédex number 734 and was first encountered in the Alola region. Its name and design evoke a mongoose, although it is not officially classified as one.
Yungoos is characterized by an enormous appetite and spends much of its waking time wandering in search of food. Pokédex descriptions say its stomach occupies a large portion of its body, helping explain its constantly hungry behavior. It has powerful jaws and sharp teeth, and its strong-jawed ability increases the power of biting moves.
A common mix-up is confusing Yungoos with its evolution, Gumshoos. Yungoos is the Loitering Pokémon, while Gumshoos is the Stakeout Pokémon. Yungoos evolves into Gumshoos, and both Pokémon are Normal types. Another interesting detail is that Yungoos is not native to Alola in the game’s lore; it was brought to the region to control its population of the invasive Rattata.
