What nickname is most commonly used for the Boeing 747?

The story behind the answer

The Boeing 747 is most commonly nicknamed the Jumbo Jet.

The name reflects the aircraft's unprecedented size when it entered service. Its wide fuselage and distinctive upper-deck hump made it instantly recognizable, while its two aisles allowed airlines to carry far more passengers than earlier jetliners.

The first 747 prototype flew in February 1969, and Pan Am introduced the aircraft to commercial service in January 1970. The jet transformed international air travel by lowering seat-mile costs and making mass long-haul flying practical.

The Boeing 747 is also called the Queen of the Skies, but Jumbo Jet is the standard general nickname. “Jumbo” was already associated with something exceptionally large, helping the phrase become part of aviation vocabulary.
