What nickname is commonly used for the 19 October 1987 global stock-market crash?

The story behind the answer

The global stock-market crash of 19 October 1987 is commonly known as Black Monday. On that day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 22.6%, its largest one-day percentage decline.

The selling began in Asian markets, moved through Europe, and reached the United States. Concerns about trade deficits, interest rates, currency tensions, and slowing economic growth combined with automated portfolio-insurance strategies and other market mechanics. Selling pressure accelerated as investors tried to exit simultaneously.

Black Monday is sometimes confused with Black Tuesday, the major panic session of the 1929 Wall Street Crash. The dates and market conditions were different. Despite the spectacular fall, the 1987 crash did not produce a depression comparable to the 1930s, and many major markets recovered relatively quickly.
