What nickname does House M.D. give Amber Volakis?

House M.D. gives Amber Volakis the nickname “Cutthroat Bitch.”

House uses the label during the season-four competition to select new members of his diagnostic team. Amber’s aggressive competitiveness and willingness to challenge other applicants make the nickname a concise description of how House views her tactics.

Amber, played by Anne Dudek, is one of several doctors competing for positions after House dismisses his previous fellows. The competition is a major storyline in season four and introduces several recurring characters, including Remy Hadley, Chris Taub, and Lawrence Kutner.

The nickname is a character label rather than Amber’s formal medical title or surname. It is also sometimes confused with her later relationship to James Wilson, which becomes important after the selection storyline and leads to one of the series’ major tragic arcs.
