Tony Parker was captain of the France men's national basketball team. The French point guard led the national side during one of the most successful periods in its history, including France's first major men's EuroBasket title in 2013.
Parker made his senior France debut in 2000 and represented the country at multiple European Championships, World Championships, and Olympic Games. His speed, ball control, and ability to create shots in the lane made him the centerpiece of France's backcourt for more than a decade. He also became the country's most prominent NBA player after joining the San Antonio Spurs in 2001.
France won the EuroBasket championship in Slovenia in 2013, defeating Lithuania in the final. Parker was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while teammates such as Boris Diaw and Nicolas Batum helped form a deep and athletic roster. France later won Olympic silver at Tokyo 2020, after Parker's international playing career had ended.
A common mix-up is identifying Parker with the San Antonio Spurs rather than France. The Spurs were his NBA club, but the national team he captained was France. France retired his number 9 jersey in 2024 in recognition of his international and professional career.
