The Marvel mutant Bobby Drake is better known as Iceman. He is one of the original X-Men and possesses mutant powers connected to cold, ice, and the manipulation of moisture.
Iceman was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, debuting in The X-Men #1 in 1963. Although he began as the youngest member of the original team, Bobby developed into one of Marvel’s most powerful mutants. His abilities include creating ice armor, forming slides, freezing objects, and transforming his body into living ice.
A common mix-up is confusing Bobby Drake with Mr. Freeze, the DC Comics villain associated with Batman. They are separate characters from different publishers. Iceman also became widely known outside comics through Shawn Ashmore’s portrayal in the X-Men film series, while the comics later explored Bobby’s identity as a gay man in a major story about coming out.
