Leonardo da Vinci sketched an armored vehicle with a conical shell and multiple cannon for military use.
The design, usually called Leonardo’s fighting vehicle, resembles a large covered platform on wheels. Its sloping armor was intended to deflect incoming attacks, while guns arranged around the vehicle could fire in several directions. Internal cranks and gears were meant to turn the wheels, although the surviving drawing contains a famous mechanical inconsistency that would prevent the vehicle from moving as shown.
The vehicle is often called an early tank, but that modern label can mislead. Leonardo did not create a tracked vehicle, and there is no evidence that a full-scale prototype was built in the 15th century. The drawing is better understood as a Renaissance military-engineering concept combining protection, mobility, and concentrated firepower.
