Berlin's large New Year's Eve celebration known as the Party at the Brandenburg Gate is held at the Brandenburg Gate.
The event takes place on Straße des 17. Juni between the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column. It typically combines live music, entertainment, food stalls, light displays, and a midnight fireworks show, making it one of Europe's best-known public New Year's gatherings.
The Brandenburg Gate was completed in 1791 as a neoclassical city gate. It later became a powerful symbol of Germany's division and reunification, especially after the Berlin Wall fell in 1989. Its historic and political importance gives the New Year's celebration an especially prominent setting.
The gate is sometimes mistaken for Berlin's nearby Reichstag building, another famous landmark. The official celebration site, however, is the Brandenburg Gate and the boulevard extending west from it.
