A waltz traditionally features in a quinceañera reception.
The celebrant may perform a formal waltz with members of her court, family members, or both. The dance presents the occasion as a ceremonial milestone rather than an ordinary birthday party. In many modern celebrations, the traditional waltz is followed by a choreographed contemporary routine.
The exact music and choreography are not universal. Families may choose a classic instrumental piece, a popular song arranged for a formal dance, or a medley that combines several styles.
The presence of a waltz does not mean every quinceañera follows a European ballroom format exactly. Latin American and Latino communities have adapted the custom in many ways, and some celebrations omit the dance or replace it with a different performance.
