A waltz is traditionally performed at many quinceañeras.
The formal dance is often presented by the quinceañera with members of her court, family, or escort group. Choreographed entrances and routines have become especially recognizable features of modern celebrations, combining a formal presentation with entertainment for guests.
Although the waltz has a strong traditional association, contemporary quinceañeras may include many musical styles. Families often add pop, salsa, cumbia, regional Mexican music, or other dances that reflect their community and the celebrant’s tastes.
The dance should not be confused with the entire celebration. A quinceañera can include a religious service, meal, speeches, symbolic rituals, and a party. The waltz is one customary component, not a universal requirement.
