A reception usually follows a quinceañera’s religious service.
The reception is the social portion of the celebration, where relatives and friends gather for food, music, dancing, speeches, photographs, and ceremonial moments. It may take place in a banquet hall, restaurant, family home, or another rented venue.
Many receptions include a formal entrance, a meal, a cake, a choreographed dance, and presentations of gifts or symbolic objects. The exact program differs widely, and some families hold the party without a church service.
Reception is the most precise general term for this post-service gathering. Fiesta is also commonly used in Spanish, but it can refer to the entire celebration rather than only the portion after Mass.
