Michael Jordan wore jersey number 9 for the 1992 United States Olympic basketball team.
The Barcelona roster was the celebrated “Dream Team,” the first U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team to include active NBA professionals. Jordan was listed as a shooting guard wearing No. 9, while Scottie Pippen wore No. 8 and several other stars received numbers from 4 through 15.
The number was different from Jordan’s famous No. 23 with the Chicago Bulls. Olympic basketball used a team roster-numbering system rather than assigning players their usual NBA numbers, so Jordan’s international uniform did not match his club identity. He played alongside Pippen, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, and David Robinson.
The United States went undefeated in Barcelona and won gold, defeating Croatia 117–85 in the final. Jordan’s Olympic résumé also included gold at the 1984 Los Angeles Games, when he was still a college player. No. 45 is associated with his return to the Bulls in 1995, not the 1992 Olympics.
