What Japanese city gives Honda's Suzuka Circuit its name?

The story behind the answer

Honda’s Suzuka Circuit takes its name from Suzuka, the Japanese city where it is located.

The circuit stands in Ino, within Suzuka City in Mie Prefecture. Honda built the track as a test course, and it opened in 1962. Dutch designer John Hugenholtz created its famous flowing layout, including the distinctive crossover section that gives the circuit its celebrated figure-eight form.

Suzuka became a major international venue for both motorcycle and car racing. It has hosted Formula One’s Japanese Grand Prix and remains strongly associated with Honda’s motorsport history. The track is also famous for the Suzuka 8 Hours endurance motorcycle race.

The answer is the city name, not Mie, the surrounding prefecture, and not Motegi, another Japanese circuit associated with Honda. Motegi is home to Mobility Resort Motegi and has also hosted major motorcycle events, but it is a separate venue. Suzuka Circuit is operated by Honda Mobilityland, a Honda subsidiary.
