What jacket is traditionally awarded to the RBC Heritage winner?

The story behind the answer

The RBC Heritage winner is traditionally awarded a plaid jacket.

The garment is commonly called the Heritage plaid jacket or tartan jacket, and it has become one of the PGA Tour’s most distinctive winner’s prizes. The tournament is played at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, a venue known for its striped lighthouse, tight seaside layout and strong Scottish-inspired visual identity.

The event began in 1969 as the Heritage Golf Classic, with Arnold Palmer winning the inaugural edition. It was later known by sponsor names including the MCI Heritage and Verizon Heritage before RBC became title sponsor. The plaid jacket fits the tournament’s long-standing branding and the region’s coastal, resort-oriented character.

The prize is easy to confuse with the Masters’ green jacket, but the two awards belong to different tournaments and traditions. The RBC Heritage winner also receives the event trophy and official PGA Tour victory benefits. Past champions include Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Davis Love III, Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar and Jordan Spieth.
