Pokémon Quest is set on Tumblecube Island. The island is home to the game's distinctive cube-shaped Pokémon, called Pokéxel, and serves as the setting for the player's expeditions.

Players manage a base camp on Tumblecube Island, prepare dishes to attract Pokémon, train a team, and send up to three Pokémon on expeditions. The adventure is divided into 12 locations, each containing several stages. Completing stages unlocks further areas and brings the team into battles with wild Pokémon.

Pokémon Quest uses a blocky, voxel-inspired visual style that makes the island and its inhabitants look different from the usual Pokémon artwork.
