She has already drunk from a bottle marked “Drink Me,” which makes her shrink, but then realizes she has left the key on the table. Eating the cake makes her grow dramatically instead, leaving her too large to pass through the door.

The wording is a famous example of Wonderland’s unreliable transformations: the bottle and cake alter Alice’s size, but not always in the direction she expects.
