Warren Buffett’s annual base salary as Berkshire Hathaway’s CEO was $100,000.
That figure is unusually small for the chief executive of a giant public company. Berkshire’s proxy disclosures have stated that Buffett’s annual base compensation remained $100,000 for more than four decades, with no conventional bonus or stock-option package like those common in executive pay plans.
The salary is not the same as Buffett’s total compensation. Berkshire has reported additional personal-security expenses as other compensation, and Buffett’s wealth has primarily come from his ownership of Berkshire shares rather than from wages. He has also generally avoided selling those shares, keeping his financial interests closely tied to other shareholders.
The question refers to his pay while serving as CEO, not to Berkshire’s current leadership arrangements. It is also easy to confuse salary with total compensation or net worth; those are separate figures.
