What is Tracy's surname in How I Met Your Mother?

Tracy's surname in How I Met Your Mother is McConnell.

Tracy McConnell is the woman known for most of the series as “the Mother,” because Ted's narration delays revealing her identity. She is played by Cristin Milioti and is finally shown fully in the eighth-season finale, “Something New.”

The surname can be confusing because Tracy later becomes Tracy Mosby after marrying Ted. McConnell is her maiden name, and it is the canonical surname used when the character is introduced and discussed before her marriage.

Tracy's identity is connected to several long-running clues, including Ted's yellow umbrella and their repeated near-meetings. She is a musician who plays bass and performs with the band at Barney and Robin's wedding. Ted eventually meets her at the Farhampton train station after that wedding, completing the story's central promise.
