What is the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall, at 979 metres?

The story behind the answer

Angel Falls is the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall, with a total height of 979 metres.

The waterfall descends from Auyán-tepui in Venezuela's Canaima National Park. Its longest single drop is about 807 metres, followed by smaller cascades, and the water often becomes mist before reaching the ground because of the immense height.

The falls are named for American aviator Jimmy Angel, whose 1937 landing on the summit of Auyán-tepui helped bring international attention to the site. Indigenous Pemón people have long known the waterfall as Kerepakupai Merú, commonly translated as “waterfall of the deepest place.”

Victoria Falls is often called the world's largest curtain of falling water, while Tugela Falls is another contender in height depending on measurement methods. Angel Falls' standard record refers specifically to uninterrupted total height.
