What is the US adaptation of the Dragons' Den investment format called?

The story behind the answer

The US adaptation of the Dragons' Den investment format is called Shark Tank.

Shark Tank uses the same broad premise: entrepreneurs present businesses or products to a panel of wealthy investors and seek funding in return for equity. The investors are called sharks rather than dragons, giving the American version its own branding while preserving the central pitch-and-negotiation structure.

The programme became a major American business reality series and introduced the format to a large US television audience. Its panel, terminology and episode presentation differ from the UK version, even though the underlying concept is closely related.

A common mistake is to treat Shark Tank as the original invention. The format originated in Japan as Money Tigers. Shark Tank is therefore an American adaptation, while Dragons' Den is the British adaptation.
