The traditional Spanish term for a boy celebrating a comparable fifteenth-birthday milestone is quinceañero.
Quinceañero is the masculine counterpart to quinceañera. Both words relate to the age of fifteen, but the feminine celebration has historically been much more widely recognized and standardized in popular culture. A quinceañero may be celebrated with a similar family gathering, formal clothing, music, dancing, or religious observance.
There is no single international rulebook for either celebration. Names and customs vary by Spanish-speaking country and by individual family. In contemporary communities, some families also adapt the tradition for young people of different genders or for group celebrations. The vocabulary distinction is grammatical and cultural, not a statement about a person’s legal status or adulthood.
