What is the traditional quinceañera dance often called in English?

The story behind the answer

The traditional quinceañera dance is often called the waltz. The honoree may perform a choreographed waltz with members of her court, family, or both during the reception.

The dance is usually carefully rehearsed and may be presented as a formal opening to the evening’s dancing. In some celebrations, the honoree first dances with her father or another parent before joining the larger court. Music and choreography vary widely, and contemporary quinceañeras may include pop routines alongside the waltz.

The waltz should not be confused with the entire court of attendants. Damas and chambelanes are people who participate in the celebration; the waltz is the dance itself. Some families replace it entirely with another style.
