The traditional name for a quinceañera’s formal male escort or attendant is chambelán. The word is used for a member of the celebration’s court, particularly the young man who accompanies the quinceañera in formal presentations or dances.
A quinceañera may have one chambelán or several male attendants, depending on the family’s plan. The court can also include damas, or young female attendants. Together, they may participate in choreographed dances, processions, photographs, and other ceremonial moments.
The title is not used identically everywhere. Some families use English terms such as escort, gentleman, or court member, while others omit a formal court entirely. Padrino, by contrast, usually refers to a sponsor or godparent, not automatically to the quinceañera’s escort.
