The traditional name for the male escorts in a quinceañera’s court of honor is chambelanes.
A court of honor accompanies the quinceañera during formal portions of the celebration. Its male members may participate in an entrance procession, choreographed dances, and the presentation of the honoree. The term chambelán is singular; chambelanes is plural.
The court’s composition is not identical in every family or country. Some celebrations include both male and female attendants, while others use a smaller group or omit a formal court entirely. Participants are often relatives, friends, or classmates who rehearse dances with the honoree.
Chambelanes are not the same as padrinos. Padrinos are sponsors or supportive adults who may help provide items or services for the celebration. Mariachis are musicians, and may perform at a quinceañera, but they are not members of the court.
