Quinceañero is the traditional masculine counterpart to quinceañera for a boy’s 15th-birthday celebration.
The term uses the masculine form of the Spanish word and can describe the honoree or, depending on context, the celebration. Quinceañero celebrations are less standardized and less widely publicized than quinceañeras, but families and communities may organize comparable coming-of-age events for boys.
The word is easy to confuse with names for male attendants in a quinceañera court. Those attendants are commonly called chambelanes, while quinceañero identifies the male honoree of his own milestone celebration.
Regional usage varies, and not every Spanish-speaking community uses quinceañero in exactly the same way. Still, it is the established masculine counterpart in discussions of gendered 15th-birthday traditions.
