In the traditional Paschal greeting, “Christ is risen” is answered with “Indeed He is risen.”
The exchange is used especially in Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and some other Christian communities during the Easter season. A speaker may say “Christ is risen!” and the response affirms the resurrection: “Indeed He is risen!” The exact wording varies by language and Christian tradition, but the structure remains a proclamation followed by confirmation.
In Greek, the greeting is Christos Anesti and the response is Alithos Anesti. In Church Slavonic traditions, related forms include Christos voskrese and Vo istinu voskrese. These are translations or linguistic equivalents rather than different theological claims.
The greeting is particularly associated with the Paschal liturgy and continues during the period after Easter. It is not simply a general spring greeting, and it should not be confused with “Happy Easter,” which is a broader social expression used across many Christian cultures.
