Metallica's 1998 double cover album Garage Inc. contains 27 tracks in total.
The album is divided into two discs with very different histories. Disc one contains 11 newly recorded cover versions, including Bob Seger's "Turn the Page," Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in the Jar," and Misfits' "Die, Die My Darling." These recordings were made mainly in 1998, with Bob Rock producing alongside James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.
Disc two adds 16 covers that Metallica had released earlier, including songs from The $5.98 E.P. – Garage Days Re-Revisited, B-sides, one-off recordings, and four Motörhead covers performed for Lemmy's 50th-birthday celebration. Adding 11 and 16 produces the album's 27-track total.
A common mix-up is counting only the first disc, which can make the answer appear to be 11, or treating the release as a standard single-disc studio album. Garage Inc. was released on November 24, 1998, and its title reflects Metallica's long tradition of reworking songs by artists who influenced them.
