What is the title of the second book in C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy?
Answer
Perelandra
Answer
Perelandra
The second book in C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy is Perelandra.
Perelandra was published in 1943 and continues the story of Dr. Elwin Ransom, who travels to the planet Venus. In the novel, Venus is known as Perelandra, and Ransom confronts a conflict involving temptation, innocence, and the future of a newly inhabited world.
The trilogy began with Out of the Silent Planet in 1933 and concluded with That Hideous Strength in 1945. Although the books are connected by Ransom and recurring ideas, each has a distinct setting and narrative focus.
A frequent ordering mistake is placing That Hideous Strength second because it is better known for its Earth-based setting. It is actually the third volume. Perelandra is the middle book and is also sometimes identified by the subtitle Voyage to Venus.
