“Three Stories” is the House, M.D. episode in which Gregory House teaches three diagnostic cases. It is the 21st episode of the first season and uses a lecture structure to reveal important details about House’s own medical history.
The episode moves between several apparently separate patient stories while House addresses medical students. Its unusual structure gradually connects the cases to the infarction that damaged House’s leg and contributed to his chronic pain.
“Three Stories” is widely regarded as one of the series’ landmark episodes. It won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, making writer David Shore the winner for that category in 2005. The title refers to the three case narratives presented during House’s teaching session.
