What is the title of the first live-action Pokémon film?

Detective Pikachu is the first live-action Pokémon film.

Released in 2019, Pokémon Detective Pikachu is based loosely on the 2016 Nintendo 3DS game Detective Pikachu. The film follows Tim Goodman, who teams up with a talking Pikachu to investigate the disappearance of Tim’s father in Ryme City, where humans and Pokémon live together.

Rob Letterman directed the film, while Ryan Reynolds provided the voice and motion capture performance for Detective Pikachu. Justice Smith played Tim Goodman, and the cast also included Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe, and Bill Nighy.

The movie is distinct from the long-running animated Pokémon films, most of which focus on Ash and Pikachu’s adventures. It was the first official live-action film adaptation of the franchise and used extensive visual effects to place Pokémon alongside human actors in a modern city setting.
