“Broken” is the title of the first episode of House M.D.’s sixth season.
The two-part episode premiered on September 21, 2009. It follows Gregory House during treatment at Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital after the events of the fifth season. The story shifts much of the action away from Princeton-Plainsboro and focuses on House’s efforts to confront addiction, responsibility, and the effects of his behavior.
“Broken” was notable for its extended running time and for introducing several patients and residents at the psychiatric facility. André Braugher played Dr. Darryl Nolan, the psychiatrist overseeing House’s treatment, while Lin-Manuel Miranda appeared as Alvie, one of House’s fellow patients.
The title is sometimes confused with “Help Me,” the two-part seventh-season finale, or “Twenty Vicodin,” the eighth-season premiere. Those episodes belong to different seasons and story arcs.
