The downloadable expansion for God of War Ragnarök released in 2023 is God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla.
Valhalla is a free post-launch expansion that adds a roguelite-style mode to the 2022 action-adventure game. It was announced and released in December 2023. Players control Kratos through repeated combat runs in a version of Valhalla, selecting upgrades and rewards while trying to progress farther each time.
The expansion is set after the main story of Ragnarök. Its narrative examines Kratos’s past and his struggle to understand what kind of god and leader he wants to become. Because of that setting, Valhalla is more than a collection of challenge arenas: it also functions as an epilogue to the Norse saga.
The title is sometimes described as a conventional story DLC, but its structure is deliberately based on repeated runs. Santa Monica Studio released it at no additional cost to owners of God of War Ragnarök.
