Taylor Swift’s eighth studio album, which includes “august,” is Folklore.
Swift released Folklore as a surprise album on July 24, 2020, through Republic Records. The record marked a major change from the brighter pop sound associated with several of her earlier albums, using more indie folk, alternative rock, and dream-pop textures. “August” appears as one of the album’s narrative songs.
Folklore was created during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Swift worked remotely with collaborators including Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff. Its fictional storytelling introduced characters and imagined histories rather than focusing only on autobiographical events.
A common mix-up is confusing Folklore with Evermore, Swift’s ninth studio album, which followed later in 2020. “August” belongs to Folklore, while Evermore contains songs such as “Willow” and “Champagne Problems.”
