What is the title of Leonardo's famous mural depicting Jesus and his disciples?

The story behind the answer

The title of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous mural depicting Jesus and his disciples is The Last Supper. Painted between 1495 and 1498, it shows the moment after Jesus announces that one of the Twelve Apostles will betray him.

Leonardo created the mural on the wall of the refectory at the Dominican convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. Instead of using traditional buon fresco, he painted on dry plaster with tempera and other materials, allowing more time for detail but making the work unusually vulnerable to deterioration.

The painting is often confused with Leonardo’s other religious works, especially The Virgin of the Rocks. It is also sometimes called L’Ultima Cena or Il Cenacolo. The scene includes all twelve apostles, whose varied reactions create the drama surrounding Jesus at the center.
