The House M.D. season 1 episode exploring three diagnostic cases is titled “Three Stories.”
“Three Stories” is the 21st episode of the first season. In the episode, Gregory House lectures medical students by presenting three apparently separate cases, using them to demonstrate the uncertainty and dangers involved in diagnosis.
The episode gradually reveals that the cases are connected to House’s own medical history. Its structure shifts between the classroom presentation and flashbacks, allowing the audience to learn more about the injury that caused House’s chronic leg pain and his reliance on a cane.
Written by David Shore and directed by Paris Barclay, “Three Stories” was widely praised. Shore won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for the episode in 2005. It is distinct from “One Day, One Room,” another well-known early episode focused on a patient conversation.
