Answer
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
C.S. Lewis’s 1950 novel about a wardrobe leading to another world is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It introduces the fictional land of Narnia, where four English children encounter talking animals, mythical beings, and a long winter.
The children are Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie. Lucy discovers the passage through a wardrobe while the siblings are staying in a country house during the Second World War. In Narnia, the lion Aslan opposes the White Witch, whose rule has caused the unnatural winter.
The book was the first Narnia novel published, although later reading orders sometimes place The Magician’s Nephew first chronologically. Lewis drew on Christian imagery, traditional fairy tales, and classical mythology, but the novel is also a self-contained adventure. Prince Caspian and The Silver Chair are separate books in the same series.
