What is the title of Anne Frank’s famous wartime diary, first published in English in 1952?

The story behind the answer

Anne Frank’s famous wartime diary is titled The Diary of a Young Girl.

Anne Frank began writing her diary in Amsterdam on 12 June 1942, her thirteenth birthday. After her family went into hiding in July 1942, she continued writing about daily life, fear, relationships, and her ambitions as a writer. The hiding place was the Secret Annex at 263 Prinsengracht, where eight people lived together.

The German police arrested the group on 4 August 1944. Anne died in Bergen-Belsen in early 1945. Her father, Otto Frank, was the only member of the hiding group known to have survived the camps. He edited the diary, and the Dutch edition appeared in 1947; the first English edition followed in 1952.
