What is the term for a baby pig?

A baby pig is called a piglet. The term usually refers to a young domestic pig, especially during the nursing and early growth stages; a group of piglets is often born in a litter.

Piglets are born highly developed compared with many other mammals and can begin seeking a teat soon after birth. They are born with sharp temporary teeth and quickly establish a teat order, with stronger piglets often competing for the more productive front teats. The mother pig is called a sow, while an adult male is a boar.

“Calf,” “colt,” and “lamb” are common distractors because they are also names for young animals. A calf is typically a young cow or other large mammal, a colt is a young horse, and a lamb is a young sheep. In farming terminology, an older immature pig may also be called a shoat, weaner, or sucker depending on its age and stage of development.
