Angel Falls is the world’s tallest waterfall by total uninterrupted height.
Located in Canaima National Park in Venezuela, Angel Falls drops 979 metres from the Auyán-tepui plateau. Its longest uninterrupted plunge is about 807 metres, making it especially notable even among other extremely tall waterfalls.
The waterfall is named after Jimmie Angel, a United States aviator who flew over it in 1933. Indigenous Pemón people have long known the site, and the falls are associated with the local name Kerepakupai Merú, often translated as “waterfall of the deepest place.”
Angel Falls is sometimes confused with Victoria Falls or Niagara Falls, which are famous for their width, volume, or tourism history rather than total height. Water flow at Angel Falls varies considerably between the rainy and dry seasons.
