House M.D.’s fellow Amber, nicknamed “Cutthroat Bitch,” has the surname Volakis.
Amber Volakis is played by Anne Dudek and becomes one of the applicants competing for a place on House’s diagnostic team during the show’s fourth season. Her aggressive ambition and willingness to challenge other candidates lead House’s team to give her the nickname “Cutthroat Bitch.”
Although initially presented as ruthless, Amber becomes more fully developed as the competition progresses. She later enters a relationship with James Wilson, creating tension with House and making her more important to the central character relationships.
Amber’s story culminates in the two-part season-four finale, “House’s Head” and “Wilson’s Heart.” She is fatally injured in a bus accident after taking a dose of amantadine while suffering from kidney failure. The storyline is frequently confused with the similarly named character Martha Masters, but Masters is a different fellow introduced later.
