What is the surfing term for riding with the left foot forward?
Answer
Regular foot
Answer
Regular foot
The surfing term for riding with the left foot forward is regular foot.
A regular-footed surfer places the left foot near the nose of the board and the right foot near the tail. This is the counterpart to a goofy stance, in which the right foot leads. Both stances are normal and occur among highly skilled surfers.
“Regular” does not mean more common in every location, nor does it mean a surfer rides straight toward the beach. It refers only to the arrangement of the feet on the board. A regular-footed surfer may ride either a left-breaking or right-breaking wave.
The same stance distinction appears in skateboarding, snowboarding, and wakeboarding. Surfers generally choose the stance that feels most balanced and natural, although some can learn to ride in the opposite position, often called switch.
