What is the stage name of the late guitarist of the band Pantera?

The story behind the answer

The late guitarist of Pantera was known by the stage name Dimebag Darrell.

Born Darrell Lance Abbott in 1966, he joined Pantera alongside his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul. The Texas band initially played glam metal before developing the groove-metal sound heard on albums such as Cowboys from Hell and Vulgar Display of Power.

Abbott originally performed as Diamond Darrell, a name inspired by the Kiss song “Black Diamond.” As Pantera’s music and image became heavier, he adopted Dimebag Darrell. The nickname referred to his insistence on accepting only a small amount of cannabis at a time, even when more was offered.

He later co-founded Damageplan with Vinnie Paul. Abbott was killed onstage in 2004 while performing with Damageplan in Columbus, Ohio. Rex Brown was Pantera’s bassist, Phil Anselmo its vocalist, and Vinnie Paul its drummer, so none of those names identifies the guitarist.
