Chambelanes is a Spanish term for male attendants who may accompany a quinceañera.
A quinceañera’s court can include damas, or female attendants, and chambelanes, or male attendants. The group may participate in the formal entrance, coordinated clothing, photographs, and choreographed dances.
The terminology is not identical everywhere. Some families use different regional labels, English terms such as escorts, or a court made up entirely of friends and relatives without a formal gender division.
Chambelanes should not be confused with mariachis, who are musicians, or padrinos, who are sponsors or honored adults connected with the celebration. The word identifies a role in the honoree’s court, not a musical group or religious office.
