What is the source of Iron Man's powers?

Iron Man's powers come from his high-tech suit of armor, which gives Tony Stark superhuman strength, protection, flight, and weapons. Unlike many superheroes, Tony Stark does not naturally possess superhuman abilities.

The armor is powered by advanced technology, including an arc reactor in many versions of the story. Its systems operate repulsor rays, a chest-mounted unibeam, flight controls, communications equipment, sensors, and life-support functions. In the original comic origin, Stark and Ho Yinsen build the first armor while imprisoned, helping Stark escape and survive. Iron Man first appeared in Tales of Suspense #39 in March 1963.
