What is the scientific name of the Brazilian salmon pink bird-eating tarantula?

The story behind the answer

The scientific name of the Brazilian salmon pink bird-eating tarantula is Lasiodora parahybana.

This large tarantula is native to northeastern Brazil, especially the Atlantic Forest region around Paraíba. Zoologist Cândido Firmino de Mello-Leitão discovered and described it in 1917, giving the species its scientific name. “Salmon pink” refers to the pinkish-red hairs that become especially noticeable on the legs, abdomen, and chelicerae as the spider matures.

Despite its bird-eating common name, birds are not its normal food and there is little evidence that it regularly catches them. It is primarily a ground-dwelling ambush predator that eats insects and may take small vertebrates. It is popular in captivity because of its impressive size and breeding success, but its urticating hairs can irritate skin and eyes, and its large fangs can inflict a painful bite.
