What is the scientific name for the pygmy marmoset?

The scientific name for the pygmy marmoset is Cebuella pygmaea. It is the smallest living monkey and one of the tiniest primates, weighing roughly 100 grams as an adult.

Pygmy marmosets live in western Amazonia, including parts of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. Their small size allows them to move nimbly through thin branches, while their claw-like nails help them cling to tree trunks. They feed heavily on tree gum and sap, using specialized lower incisors to gouge bark; insects and fruit supplement this diet.

The species name is often confused with names of other small New World monkeys. Leontopithecus rosalia is the golden lion tamarin, Saguinus oedipus is the cotton-top tamarin, and Callithrix jacchus is the common marmoset. The pygmy marmoset is placed in its own genus, Cebuella, although some classifications have historically treated it within Callithrix.
