Pokémon Scarlet and Violet take place in the Paldea region.
Paldea is the setting for the ninth generation of main-series Pokémon games. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were released for Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022, and present Paldea as a large open world inspired primarily by the Iberian Peninsula.
The region includes cities, wilderness, lakes, deserts, mountains, and the Great Crater of Paldea. Area Zero lies inside that crater and is central to the games' story. The games also feature the Naranja Academy in Scarlet and the Uva Academy in Violet.
Paldea is often confused with Kitakami and Blueberry Academy, which appear in the downloadable expansion The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. Those are additional settings connected to Scarlet and Violet, but Paldea is the principal region. The games introduced the Terastal phenomenon and Pokémon such as Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly, Koraidon, and Miraidon.
