What is the order that includes frogs and toads?

The story behind the answer

The order that includes frogs and toads is Anura. The name comes from Ancient Greek words meaning “without a tail,” referring to the tailless body form of adult frogs and toads.

Anura is one of the three living orders of amphibians. The other two are Caudata, also called Urodela, which includes salamanders and newts, and Gymnophiona, which includes limbless caecilians. Anura contains both animals commonly called frogs and those commonly called toads.

The distinction between “frog” and “toad” is mostly a common-name convention rather than a strict taxonomic division. Frogs are often associated with smoother, moister skin and aquatic habitats, while toads are often described as having drier, bumpier skin and a more terrestrial lifestyle. There are many exceptions, however, so both belong within Anura. The order includes thousands of species found on every continent except Antarctica.
