What is the only surviving monument of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World?

The story behind the answer

The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only surviving monument of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Also called the Pyramid of Cheops or Khufu, it was built at Giza in Egypt during the Fourth Dynasty, probably in the twenty-sixth century BC. It served as the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu and formed part of a larger pyramid complex with temples, causeways and smaller pyramids.

The pyramid originally stood about 146.6 metres high, although erosion and the loss of its outer casing reduced its present height. It remained the tallest human-made structure in the world for roughly 3,800 years, a record usually associated with the completion of Lincoln Cathedral in medieval England.

The other six ancient wonders were destroyed by earthquakes, fire, war or gradual deterioration, and the Hanging Gardens may not have existed as described. The Great Pyramid survived because of its massive stone construction and desert setting.
