What is the only continent located in all four hemispheres?

The story behind the answer

Africa is the only continent located in all four hemispheres.

The Equator crosses Africa from west to east, placing parts of the continent in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The Prime Meridian also crosses Africa, placing land on both its eastern and western sides. Together, these two reference lines give Africa territory in all four hemispheres.

The Equator passes through countries including Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Kenya, and Somalia. The Prime Meridian crosses Algeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, Togo, and Ghana. Africa therefore spans both north-south and east-west divisions.

A frequent error is choosing South America, because the Equator and Prime Meridian are often discussed with it in geography lessons. South America lies entirely west of the Prime Meridian, so it occupies only the Western Hemisphere. Africa’s unusual position is a geographic fact, not a political definition of the continent.
